| Day Summary
Crews assemble in Port Hamble by 9am. Arrangements can be made for crews to sleep onboard the previous night.
Options are available for breakfast either onboard or at the restaurant onsite.
After a full safety briefing onboard our aim is to be on the water by 10am
The morning is set aside for familiarisation and sail training and then after lunch we embark on the team challenge!!!
Racing packed lunches are provided to maximise the time on the water.
A 1pm start to the afternoon challenge will leave plenty of time to complete the course before returning back to Port Hamble for 4.30pm
Prizing giving and farewell drinks can be taken at the bar / restaurant with the aim for you and your guests to depart by 5.30pm
The Challenge
The focus of the afternoon centres around a Navigation Challenge
- Each team is given a list of marks within the Solent, each mark or buoy is scored depending on their proximity to the starting area.
- With the starting point in the central Solent the challenge is for the teams to score points by passing within one boat length of any buoy. Each buoy can be passed only once.
- Obviously the buoys further away are scored higher and the dilemma for each crew is to decide whether to gamble and head for high scoring marks or play it safe nearer to the start / finish area. The team with the highest points wins!
- There is a time limit with heavy penalties for boats that finish outside of the allotted time
- Our skippers are instructed not to get involved and are purely there to keep everyone safe as well as to ensure fair play !!
This event works best having identical boats and so we recommend bringing together a matched fleet of Beneteau First 40.7s or for smaller groups our First 44.7's |
